We came across this story about a fire captain that's sailing a 17 ft wooden sailboat from Washington D.C. to New York hoping to raise money and awareness for Autism. It's a 425 mile journey and he'll be escorted along the way by Coast Guard and local emergency services.

The RC44's have come to San Diego this week, marking the first major international regatta for this sailing town since Coutts swept Conner in the America's Cup 16 years ago.

It's incredible to think that the next America's Cup, an event that was once governed by the designs of Nathaniel Herreshoff, will be sailed in mutli-hulls. In 1876, "Captain Nat" saw the speed, excitement and promise in these designs and launched Amaryllis - a 30 foot catamaran. He sailed Amaryllis from Bristol to New York in 14 hours (a record) and then entered her in a race.
