Marion, MA
The 36th Annual Buzzards Bay Regatta, hosted by the Beverly Yacht Club in Marion, MA, culminated today with an early afternoon surge of near perfect wind and weather. Taking place over three days, the Buzzards Bay Regatta is one of the largest multi-class regattas in the US with approximately 450 boats and 1200 sailors across fifteen different classes. Boats and sailors come to Buzzards Bay off of Cape Cod from all across the Northeast and the country as they look to enjoy the renowned sailing conditions, competition and race management.
This year's BBR had a full complement of racing opportunities for sailors, starting with classes for Lasers all the way up through the J Classes to PHRF. Attracting competitors from American Clubs as far flung as Maine, Maryland, Chicago and California, and an international crowd representing clubs from Bermuda, St. Thomas and Montreal. The BBR has been a destination of choice for sailors for the past 36 years. This year BBR also offered competition for 29ers, the fast and furious racing machines that attract top end sailors edging towards Olympic competition.
The winners in each class along with their home yacht clubs along with the number of competitors in each class are: 29ers (13 boats) – Max Fraser from RYC/SCYC/SFYC; 505s (23 boats) – Andrew Buttner from Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club; Vanguard 15s (50 boats) – David Meieney from Vineyard Haven Yacht Club on Martha's Vineyard, MA; 420s (123 boats) – Matthew Wefer and Alex Hering from Sea Cliff Yacht Club; PHRF Racing 1 (16 boats) Tom Rich on Settler from the New York Yacht Club; PHRF Racing 2 (14 boats) – Ira Perry on Seefest from the New Bedford Yacht Club in New Bedford, MA; PHRF Cruising (26 boats) – Ron Noonan on Wildflower from the Beverly Yacht Club in Marion, MA; Expressly for Fun race (12 boats) Bill Hollman on Defiant from the Beverly Yacht Club; Shields (9 boats) – Jonathan Pope on Madame X from the Beverly Yacht Club; J/24s (9 boats) – Charlie Enright on Rooster; J/80s (15 boats) Geoffrey Pierini on Shakedown; IRC (5 boats) Brian McSweeny on Bully from the Beverly Yacht Club; J/105s (11 boats) Brian Keane on Savasana from the Beverly Yacht Club; J/109s (7 boats) – Ted Herlihy on Gut Feeling from the New Bedford Yacht Club; Laser (40 boats) – Mark Bear from Newport, RI; Laser Masters (16 boats) – Mark Bear from Newport, RI; Laser Radial (73 boats) Sam Padnos from the MBYC.

You got the results wrong for the 420 class and so did Beverly YC. Ian Liberty and Jane Rew won the 420 class. The Race Committee scored the last race wrong. Corrections were still being made as of last night.
We have updated results posted now. The correct results were reported at the awards ceremony. Unfortunately the press release was distributed prior to this issue being identified. We appologize to Ian and Jane for this error. Congratulations on a great regatta.
Jack Gierhart, Chairman BBR 2008.
