Sailing Slalom

If you haven't already, check out the Heavy Weather Laser Slalom 2011 Worlds. Racing is under way... where else but at St Francis on the Bay!

"The course is short, two parallel rows, four buoys each, starting in front of the race office and heading West for only about 200 yards. In other words, all the action is easily seen from the race deck or along the shore in front of the club. The wind will blow, the races are one right after the other, and the thrills and spills are part of the fun!"

Blind Man goes Sailing With Help From Afar

It's not often that the sport of sailing finds it's way into the Wall Street Journal, so I read Nick Burns' article with great interest. It's about a blind man sailing alone in a boat with his dog, getting "virtual" help from a skipper back on shore who is also a disabled sailor. They use webcams, laptops and cell phones and pull it off with ease.

It may also be a glimpse towards the development of other visual guidance programs that can help the blind with every tasks (like reading the expiration date on milk) in the future. A good read. Link below...
