Something For Everyone: Buzzards Bay Regatta 2008
By: Jennifer Langille
Not all sailing is for everyone, but within the broad umbrella of sailing there is honestly something for every person who enjoys the water. The history of American Sailing suggest an exclusive, elite sport. This still very much the case in current times with a twist. Today’s sailors want to share the sport with family, friends and the random person waiting in line for a Power Boater magazine.
So how do sailors share the activity? How does one convince someone into a day on the water where they may get wet, the ride will tip a little, can not really give a time of arrival and destination to be determined while under way. Or, better yet, convince them to do all the above while sailing around buoys, never really going anywhere.
For a seasoned sailor-racer, it’s easy, quite appealing and takes little convincing. One gets on just about any boat and seems to magically know what to do. This is not the case for the newbie and frankly, from beginners eyes, quite intimidating. They see and think: tippy boat, macramé of lines, odd shaped things bolted to the deck in some sort of a pattern. Where’s the motor? Sails? Seriously, from there vantage the dock and power boat on the other pier, more inviting. It’s straight forward: step on board, turn the key and go. (To read the full article...)

Hazy, light and maybe a shift or two...
Good morning BBR followers! It's been quite warm and humid and today is already feeling no different. However, there is a light, ever so light breeze to keep one cool while they rig and prep for today's races.
The forecast is calling for 5-7 out of the North for the start of racing but according to SailFlow, looks to shift soon after and mid-day (noon-ish)...hmm the more I study the charts the more I think, "this could be an interesting day on the water!!"
As I write, a very not from the North puff blows across my cheek!
We're getting the lay of the land...will be heading out on the water with press boat by 1030H and off the water around 1500H...please check back later today for pics and tales from the water!
Cheers!

Things are warming up at BBR!
The SailFast ambassador Jennifer Langille of SailTrim.org is on site and already camera happy! Please enjoy these photos from Thursday evening during registration:
The "blog plan", goal, is to do a pre-race weather update and any fun information (i.e. interviews with sailors, etc.) An immediate post-sailing report with pictures and an end of day wrap up after results have been confirmed.
I've been playing around with my video skills (yikes!), pictures will not be a problem and neither is chatting it up with folks.
Cheers!
